HOPE AND A PRAYER, Hacks and Tools ~
Do you remember where you were when you heard the President was shot? I am dating myself but for reference sake; the President was – John F Kennedy.
I was outside making mud pies, (every 5 year olds pastime) filling time till I was allowed to come back inside the house. Mom and Dad needed some alone time apparently. Dad was away for 6 months and Mom was so happy to see him again. But the thing I remember most was mom screaming and crying causing me to run up the door pounding to get back inside.
Mom cried out in broken English to Dad, “honey we made a mistake coming here!” Mom was scared! I mean even though we fled a country that belittled and berated anyone especially newborns that were not purebred; at least no one elevated to the killing of a President!
A newfound fear began to cloud a highly sought after dream, our new start in America. Everyone that was anyone knew – this was the land full of opportunity. Time eventually eased the concerns. The American opportunity became a mantra that was drilled into our heads.
Be a good student, land a good job, stay in that job till retirement, enjoy your retirement years..
The reality now is that those that decided to follow this path have found this promised retirement program – GONE! More and more have taken out student loans thinking a good education was crucial to begin a productive life – each is now looking for a bailout. Those fortunate to get a job have found their employer not participating in any real long term retirement plan; so they job hop! My Gen Baby Boomers once confident about retirement, are still working chasing happiness with health concerns.
I confess, my timing has truly been a gift. Today the Military 20 year retirement program is gone!
I share this with you concerned now that many have missed this boat! The fact is we live in a different world and we must adapt! The most successful I have had the privilege to know and work with were fortunate to achieve their dreams of independence by understanding and using proven systems. Systems that come from many failed attempts before success.
