Friend of mind shared an experience she had the other day as she walked to her car in the underground garage.
The encounter goes, as she rattled loose her car keys to reveal the remote a familiar silence succumbed to an eerily notion she was not alone. She closed the gap as quickly as she could then stopped.
Months prior she graduated from a self defense course and remembered no matter the threat, you must take control of what once is the advantage to any potential predator. Acknowledge their presence! But most importantly by making an eye to eye connection. Yikes!
She was taught this simple action does two major things, firstly it eliminates the surprise / stealth advantage and secondly it measures the potential threat. Ok you say?
Thank goodness it was just her workmate on another floor also working late walking to the same dark corner of the garage!
Why did she even share this encounter?
She is proud to report, this new awareness of her once timid demeanor has now been strengthened as she now has noticed her walk and posture is one of new found confidence. Live encounters to incorporate new tools will do this.
What’s the takeaway?
Predators love victims with the element of surprise their main tactic. Do your best to present yourself in a confident manner and make it a primary tactic to make an eye to eye connection to any potential predator.
Awareness of your surroundings is a skill worthy of practice and if done consistently in a confident manner, you will be passed by to much easier prey. Best of all the habit evolves to an attitude which then requires little to no reaction time or thought to action.
To your health wealth and happiness!
